'Audible' up for Short Documentary Oscar

The film tells the story of the champion football team at the Maryland School for the Deaf and looks at the suicide of a former classmate.

It's up for the Academy Award for short subject documentaries. The executive producer is Nyle DiMarco, a one-time Dancing with the Stars winner. Director Matthew Ogens says:

"It actually took 12 years to get made. And I went back to the school every year. Lots of different partners and starts and maybes and no's and it just was the number one project for me that I sort of couldn't let go of."

As for the discussion of suicide in the film, Ogens says:

"It's a cautionary tale in some ways of what can go wrong when you don't include people and you bully people. I don't want to speak for Teddy and say that was all that was going on in his life but, certainly, that was a part of it."

ABC-7 in Los Angeles takes a look at the film in the video below or read the story here.

The Academy Awards take place Sunday, March 27 and can be seen on Amazon Prime.
