Bodycam shows Police arresting deaf man for failing to obey commands he could not hear

A case in Colorado shows police aren't trained to properly interact with the deaf community.

Brady Mistic filed a lawsuit after two Idaho Springs police officers slammed him to the ground in 2019. Mistic tried to tell them that he could not understand their commands but to no avail.

They put him in jail for four months. Now, he is suing.

Mistic's attorney, Raymond Bryant, says:

"The video shows that (Mistic) was not moving at the time the officers contacted him. He was standing still. He was in a place to be able to communicate if they had taken the time. He was trying to understand what was going on and to communicate. The idea that the officers needed to go hands on and use force is completely disconnected from reality."
