CODA running for political office in Brooklyn

Steve Saperstein is the son of deaf parents and has a deaf brother.

He is running as a Democrat in hopes of winning a City Council seat in Brooklyn. Saperstein

learned sign language at a young age and became a teacher for students with disabilities.

He is one of several candidates hoping to secure the 48th Council District after councilman Chaim Deutsch lost the seat following his conviction on charges of tax fraud. Saperstein is running against Inna Vernikov—a pro-Trump Republican. She opposes vaccine mandates. Both candidates were members of the other party in previous years.
