Deaf actress Millicent Simmonds stars in new film

Deaf actress Millicent Simmonds is once again in the news for her role in the film A Quiet Place Part II. The PG-13 movie arrives in theaters today (Friday, May 28).

In the film, she once again plays, Regan Abbott, the deaf daughter in a mid-western family trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where monsters are drawn to sound and people must maintain their silence in order to live. The first film in the series was a breakout role for Simmonds. She told Variety:

We had an ASL coach and a sign language interpreter who, if people had questions about deaf culture and the history of sign language or to make sure the sign articulation was correct, or if they wanted to learn more signs than just their lines, then they would teach that, and I really appreciated that.
