Deaf Woman's case to go before the Supreme Court

The U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether a deaf woman can sue for emotional distress damages after not being provided an interpreter.

Jane Cummings has been deaf since birth and is legally blind. She sought to hire physical therapy services company Premier for help with her chronic back pain. But Premier refused to provide an ASL interpreter. The 5th Circuit ruled she did not have the right to sue for emotional distress damages as the law is written so her lawyers appealed to the Supreme Court. The case, Cummings v. Premier Rehab, will come before the court for arguments this fall. You can read about court action related to the case here.
