‘Sound of Metal’ makes audiologist ‘uncomfortable’
Pediatric audiologist Michelle Hu has mixed feelings about the message in the new film Sound of Metal.
It focuses on a musician's journey into the deaf community. Hu says:
“It was a good production but they [dropped] the ball on a lot of things, hearing and audiology-wise. They really implied that just because [the main character] got a cochlear implant, he's not welcome in the deaf community anymore. And that kind of made me feel uncomfortable.”
