Troy Kotsur talks about CODA, cochlear implants, when he decided to become an actor, and more

Academy Award winner Tory Kotsur sat down with Variety to discuss the award and his views on a number of subjects of interest to the Deaf Community.

When he was about 10 months old, his hearing parents saw he did not react to pots and pans being dropped. They "freaked out" and were scared. But they learned to embrace Troy's deafness. He says his dad is his hero.

“My dad said, 'Troy, sign language is truly a beautiful language. It’s a gift to the world that everyone needs to see.' It was so touching to hear my father say and recognize the beauty of ASL."
