FCC proposes fining Verizon $100K over accessibility issues

The Federal Communication Commission says Verizon "failed to provide the Enforcement Bureau with the information that was needed to determine whether its Premium Visual Voicemail was accessible."

The service transcribes the first 45 seconds of voicemail messages into text but customers have complained it is not accessible to individuals with disabilities.

Section 255 of the FCC Communications Act requires equipment manufacturers and service providers to “make their products and services accessible to people with disabilities, if such access is readily achievable.”
