• Both of her grandmothers are Holocaust survivors.

• She attended the California School for the Deaf, Fremont and Gallaudet University.

• She is married and has one daughter.

• Stern has also served as an executive story editor for the Marvel series Echo.

• She is the only deaf actor to ever have a role on two prime-time TV shows at the same time.

• She stars in the Sundance Now series This Close, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and AMC's Disquiet—which she wrote herself.

In a 2020 interview, she told Entertainment Tonight:

Recently, I went through boxes of stories I wrote as a child. They were all about hearing children, because those were the only stories I read or saw on television. So I unconsciously erased myself from my own story. Nobody sees themselves as different until they’re taught that they are.
