Hearing aids now available online & at stores without a prescription

Adults with mild-to-moderate hearing loss also can buy hearing devices without a doctor's exam or audiologist fitting.

While groups like the Hearing Industries Association support the FDA change in policy, they also want consumers to see doctors for any serious problems.


Walmart is one of the retailers planning to offer over-the-counter hearing aids. The prices will start at $199 per pair. Walgreens hearing aids will cost $799, which the company says would cost a lot more from a specialist. Best Buy will offer hearing aids at a range of prices starting at $200.
